Matossian Eye Associates - The Employer That Teaches You How To Fish

Matossian Eye Associates is one of the most amazing places to work, with dynamic, enthusiastic and dedicated managers who are focused on providing the best care for our patients and also helping team members develop their skill sets and careers. I have already learned so many things, and I can honestly say that I love going to work every day in such a positive and educational environment.

Managers Who Care

In addition to our excellent patients, one of the main reasons I love being at work is the way in which the managers constantly strive to help me improve. They consistently present me with new and innovative ideas to develop my “managerial muscle,” which will no doubt benefit me in my future career. As an avid reader, I was delighted when about two years ago, our managers started a monthly "book club" in which we read and discuss a chapter from a management book. The idea is to not only read the chapter together, but to consider the learning from that chapter to self-reflect and troubleshoot matters in the office.

Each book is specially chosen to ensure that it covers a different topic than previous material.  We have tackled various subjects ranging from practical training techniques to efficient practice management. The most recent book we have read, and one that has had a significant impact on me personally, is a book named Fish!. The book was adapted from a documentary about the world-famous pike place fish market. The book is logically laid out and walks readers through the four separate practices of the “Fish! Philosophy.”

  • Be There
  • Play
  • Make Their Day
  • Choose Your Attitude

As a practice, we always strive to create the best environment for our patients and staff alike. It might seem like a small initiative to create a book club, but that would be missing the point. The book club provides the perfect opportunity for staff to come together in a relaxed environment, and work as a team on areas of the business and their personal development. I know that personally I have learned so much through our book club, and it has improved both the office environment and my management skills.

This has been an excellent opportunity for all of the young managers to grow and learn, and I am looking forward to the next book we are going to tackle. For me, it has been a genuinely win-win experience, and this is another example of the attention to detail that the team at Matossian Eye Associates puts into every aspect of the practice to ensure we are providing the best care possible for our patients.
