MEA Hosts International Medical Students

Hopewell, NJ - Every year at Matossian Eye Associates (MEA), we are joined by students of different educational backgrounds to shadow our doctors. This year, we were joined by Mirabel Millip, a medical student from the UK. She chose MEA to fulfill an elective requirement at her medical school. Prior to arriving at MEA, Mirabel has only had a reserved extent of experience in the field of ophthalmology. She had the chance to shadow a number of our doctors from our practice and observe distinctions between the American health system in comparison to the National Health Service in the UK. She plans on pursuing ophthalmology specialty training back in the UK.

Of her experience shadowing at MEA, Mirabel stated: “As a medical student studying in the UK with limited exposure to ophthalmology in terms of clinical experience (a week at Moorfields Eye Hospital, London), I truly enjoyed my four weeks of experience at MEA. I have acquired knowledge in multiple ophthalmology subspecialties which would certainly be applicable towards my future. All this and more while working in a new environment, meeting new and friendly people, and learning more about the different healthcare system in the US. I’m very grateful Dr Matossian as well as everyone working at MEA for making this elective a fruitful one for me.”

Matossian Eye Associates gladly welcomes interested students to observe our doctors. Please email if you are interested in a shadowing opportunity.
