The 2018 Bausch + Lomb Surgical Mentor Resident Program was held at different dates throughout the Tampa, Florida area this past year, with the purpose of educating second- and third-year ophthalmology residents for their future careers. The program provided a direct look into the manufacturing of precision IOLs, personalized instruction from leading ophthalmic surgeons and even allowed residents to observe a live surgery session at the Eye Institute of West Florida.
Bausch + Lomb established the Surgical Mentor Resident Program to provide residents with a valuable hands-on educational experience. During the two-day program, residents learned cataract and refractive surgical techniques and tips from some of the nation’s leading ophthalmic surgeons and eye care professionals. The student-to-faculty ratio of 4:1 ensured residents had a personalized and engaging experience as they absorbed the knowledge possessed by their faculty mentors.
What Was Covered

Personalized Instruction from Leading Ophthalmic Surgeons – Throughout the morning, faculty presented case studies and informative lectures on the fundamentals of cataract and refractive surgery techniques that residents could later put into practice during the afternoon “wet lab.”
