When it comes to modern medical advancements, contact lens technology is indeed evolving at an almost breakneck pace.
We are excited about the latest contact lenses that are now available, the ACUVUE OASYS with Transitions from Johnson & Johnson Vision. With patients now being fitted with these leading-edge lenses that change from clear to dark when exposed to bright light, the dream of helping eyes adjust to different light conditions can be realized – all while protecting eyes from harmful ultraviolet light and providing blue light protection for indoor (computer) use.
This first-of-its-kind contact lens – one of TIME’s Best Inventions of 2018 – seamlessly adapts to changing light to provide all-day soothing vision, working to quickly balance the amount of indoor and outdoor light entering the eye. Built with Transitions Light Intelligent Technology to reduce the stressful impact that light can have on our eyes, the ACUVUE OASYS with Transitions even minimizes halos and “starbursts” at night to provide crisp, clear vision…and that’s just the beginning.
Johnson & Johnson Vision’s ACUVUE OASYS with Transitions is made with photochromic molecules in the matrix of the plastic that react to the amount of ultraviolet light reaching the surface of the lens. As these molecules respond to the light rays, a chemical reaction causes them to darken and absorb the visible light. What’s more, the lenses were specifically designed to provide patient benefits while minimizing the change to the appearance of the eye, fading back to clear quickly once the patient is indoors.
One of the more popular questions the Matossian eye doctor staff gets about these lenses has to do, interestingly enough, with sunglasses – particularly if this new lens technology can be viewed as a sunglasses replacement. According to Johnson & Johnson, ACUVUE OASYS with Transitions are not intended to be used as a replacement for sunglasses. But they can be worn with non-prescription sunglasses, and here’s why: While these lenses do provide UV protection to the areas they cover, other parts of the eye and surrounding areas are still exposed to UV light, and sunglasses help to protect the entire eye.
In summary, ACUVUE OASYS with Transitions:
- Dynamically filters and reduces exposure to bright light, both indoors and outdoors.
- Helps filter the blue light encountered every day.
- Offers the highest level of UV protection in contact lenses.
- Uses Transitions Light Intelligent Technology to reduce the stressful impact light can have on our eyes.
ACUVUE OASYS with Transitions are available in six packs and worn as a two-week disposable modality. Make an appointment with one of our eye doctors for a fitting and try these amazing new lenses.
