Now that winter is upon us, it’s time to “winterize” our eyes. But what does that mean exactly? In today’s video, Dr. Matossian shares 5 tips to winterize your eyes and make sure you’re ready for a *clear* and comfortable winter season.
1. You must stay hydrated.
I realize it’s not hot outside, so you may not think of drinking as much water, but it’s equally important to drink water in the winter as it is in the summer.
We use dry heat as one of the ways to keep ourselves warm, which is going to dry the eyes even more. So make sure that you stay hydrated!
2. Make sure that you stay compliant with your prescribed medications, if any.
This is of course important year-round, but it’s always a good reminder when we’re talking about proper eye health.
3. Make sure that you use good quality artificial tears as often as is necessary.
Keep these on hand in your car, your purse and around the house, so you’re never without artificial tears when you need them.
4. If your eye care provider has recommended a heated mask, go ahead and use that.
That creates intense moisture around the eyes and feels wonderful. You will enjoy it, and your eyes will thank you as well.
5. And if you have not had your eyes checked lately, winter is always a good time to make a visit to your favorite eye doctor!
